The Corporate Offices /Operational Headquarters of Kunkel Bus Lines is located in the Township of West Grey approximately 2 kilometres south of Hanover, Ontario. Kunkel Bus Lines is proud of its corporate facilities and the expertise of its executive, management, and operations team who ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of our transportation services on a daily basis. The Kunkel Bus Lines Team further ensures that all operations are in full compliance with Ministry of Transport standards, School Board policies, and our own corporate policies and procedures. Kunkel Bus Lines takes a significant amount of pride in the fact that the customer service from drivers and office staff alike is above and beyond what is normally expected in our industry. Clients regularly comment on the customer service they receive both internally at the office level and out on the road with the school route drivers and highway coach drivers. Quite frequently customers (ie schools, parents, private groups etc) will contact the office and let them know of their positive experiences. This information is then relayed to all parties to encourage such positive behaviour with future customers.

Stephen is no stranger to the bus industry, having grown up in a small Midwestern Ontario community where his family operated a local school bus company. Stephen possessed a strong interest in the business side of the bussing industry and subsequently attended Georgian College where he obtained his diploma in business management in 1982 and immediately started his career with the family owned bus company. Stephen’s exposure to the industry while growing up, and during his early employment with the company, exposed him to the many facets of the transportation industry. He started with the company in 1976 washing buses, mowing lawns etc. Stephen was innovative and excelled in the company, and was subsequently promoted to a management role in 1983. Stephen flourished in this position and was instrumental in moving the company progressively forward. In 1997 the opportunity for ownership arose and Stephen and his brother Michael purchased Kunkel Bus Lines. Stephen took on the role of President at Kunkel’s. Stephen and Michael continued to grow the company, purchasing several small bus lines and ultimately doubled the size of the school bus fleet. Simultaneously, they made additions to Kunkel’s motor coach division growing the fleet from 1 to the current 10 luxurious coaches. Over his years in the industry, Stephen has been a leader, having liaised, consulted, and played an active role with School Boards, and local and provincial bus associations, including the Grey-Bruce Bus Operators, the Ontario Motor Coach Association and the Independent School Bus Operators Association. Stephen oversees all business, financial, and administrative operations for the company which now operates 150 buses and employs 180 Team Members including drivers and support staff. Stephen is proud of the heritage of Kunkel Bus Lines which celebrated its 60th Anniversary as a family owned business in 2013.

Michael began his career at Kunkel Bus Lines in 1982 in a part time wash bay position. Michael’s lifelong interest in vehicles and natural mechanical talent led him to pursue certification in the mechanical field. Subsequently, Michael attended Fanshawe College where he completed his Truck and Coach Technician Certification and his Automotive Technician Certification in 1988. Upon completion he returned to Kunkel Bus Lines where he doubled as a technician and supervisor of the fleet maintenance department responsible for all vehicle operations. In 1997 Michael and Stephen purchased Kunkel Bus Lines and Michael took on the role of Corporate Vice President. Additionally, Michael continued in his role overseeing all fleet maintenance operations and staff supervision. Progressively, Michael and Stephen purchased several other bus companies ultimately doubling the size of the bus fleet. Simultaneously, Michael and Stephen began to grow the motor coach division from 1 coach to the current fleet of 10. Currently Michael oversees a maintenance department which services 150 buses and employs 2 managers and 10 technical and maintenance staff.

Bonnie has been with Kunkel Bus Lines since 1991, and came to the company with 15 years of accounting and office administration experience, having worked for a local organization. Bonnie initially joined the Kunkel team as the company comptroller but also assisted with school bus routing and in the dispatcher role. Bonnie’s natural management abilities were recognized and after a few years serving in the noted roles, she was promoted to the position of General Manager/Finance Manager. As General Manager Bonnie has multi-tasked in almost every role in the organization including Human Resources, Charters, Service, Routing and Dispatch. She has served as liaison person to school boards and both local and provincial bus associations, including OSBA, OMCA and ISBOA. Bonnie completes accounts payable, monthly and year end reconciliatons, and manages all company operational and support functions with a total complement of 20 support staff and 160 bus drivers.

Colin came to Kunkel Bus Lines in 2008 as a regular route school bus driver who possessed 35 years of commercial driving experience and natural instructional skills. Colin retired from a career as a Professional Fire Officer. Colin was also the owner of an international equine transportation company, logging more than one million miles behind the wheel. Based on his extensive skills and experience, Colin quickly moved into the role of a Kunkel Bus Lines driver trainer, initially focusing on special needs transportation and company policies and procedures. In 2013 Colin was assigned the additional role as the exclusive coach driver trainer. in 2015 Colin also completed the PRIDE (Professional Instructor in Driver Education) Program. Colin has since moved on to become the General Manager of our School Bus Division, dealing with day to day matters and answering any questions that are thrown his way. Colin continues to demonstrate his skills in all areas of our business and is a great asset to our company /evaluator.

Mike came to Kunkel Bus Lines in 1998 and brought with him 16 years administrative experience with a school board in the United States. Mike possessed extensive experience in human resources, student transportation and development of policies and procedures. Mike excelled in office administration. Mike’s expertise included specialized training in Hazard Communications, Lockout/Tag Out procedures, MSDS training, District Crisis Control Procedures and Budget planning and control. Additionally, Mike was the co-owner of a maintenance company for 15 years where he multi-tasked as owner/manager and materials acquisition/control person. Mike initially took a position in the Kunkel Bus Lines wash bay but based on his skill sets quickly moved into the role of Human Resources Manager establishing the parameters of this newly formed position. Mike was instrumental in developing many of the company’s policies and procedures. Based on his School Board and private business experience, Mike easily made the transition to his current position as Parts Manager where he is responsible for acquisition, inventory and pricing of all materials and parts utilized by the company.

Connie has been part of the Kunkel Bus Lines team since 1991, having started her employment at Kunkel Bus Lines as a spare bus driver. Connie is a graduate of the Certified Personal Support Worker Program at Georgian College, the Business Administration Course at Park Business College, and has completed courses in business management through the University of Toronto Rotman School of Business. Connie served for five years as a security supervisor at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Slots. She is a certified First Aid/CPR instructor, and provides hands on instruction to all Kunkel Bus Lines employees. She has several other certifications and creditations including but not limited to customer service excellence, conflict resolution, winning supervisor (OLG), and accounting. Based on her experience and many skill sets, Connie progressed through the company and took on her current role as Transportation Rental Co-ordinator in 2006.

Lynda began her career at Kunkel Bus Lines in 2005 as a school bus driver. She brought with her many years driving experience in the school bus industry, an exceptional driving record and skills, and a dedication to promoting safe driving technique. Lynda drove for Kunkel Bus Lines for a couple of years at which time she applied for the position of Driver Trainer. Her leadership experience, instructional ability and analytical skills acquired from other life accomplishments made her a perfect addition to the team of Driver Trainers. In 2008 she assisted in the development of a new Driver Training Program. Lynda facilitates the delivery of this program as well as driver retraining and annual driver evaluations. She has also had a hands on role in the First Rider and Bus Evacuation programs. In 2010 Lynda successfully completed the PRIDE (Professional Instructor in Driver Education) program. The training curriculum and driver safety initiatives continue to see significant advances under Lynda’s leadership.
Monica began her career at Kunkel Bus Lines in the fall of 2014 and has been a great asset to our team ever since. Monica handles daily payroll duties and can answer any accounting questions you might have.
